The HOPE Foundation
of Darke County , incorporated in 1986, is dedicated to improving
the quality of life in Darke County. Like other community foundations,
we serve two important constituencies. We help donors to meet
their charitable objectives and we help nonprofit organizations
to provide the services and programs so essential to our community.
In other foundations, many generous donors have recognized how
their gifts, made through a foundation, may provide continuing
support for the needs of their community - both for today and
for the years to come. A similar type of partnership will help
enable the HOPE Foundation to grow in service to the people
of Darke County while becoming one of the county's major resources
for receiving and distributing charitable gifts.
HOW THE HOPE FOUNDATION WORKS
The Foundation's resources come from gifts made by individuals,
families, businesses and charitable organizations. These gifts
come in a variety of sizes and forms. Normally only income is
disbursed, providing a continuing source of funding to benefit
education, social services, the arts, civic affairs, hospitals
and health, and conservation. Donors may specify the purpose
for which their contributions are to be used, or may leave the
choice to the foundation. Whatever the purpose, each gift receives
maximum tax benefits. The Trustee Investment Committee
works with the FirstStar Bank trust department for non-profit
organizations to ensure that individuals' estates keep growing
and giving. A 20 member Board of Trustees sets foundation policy
and approves all grants. All have extensive service to and knowledge
of our community. Trustees are selected at-large from all of
Darke County.
